“BLACKNESS MOTIVATES ME TO STEP OUTSIDE OF BOXES WITHOUT PENALTY”

Rob is the homie. How can we explain it? It’s like, if you’ve ever met anyone and thought, we met at the right time, well that’s this dude. As creatives, you always try to peep who’s really able to vibe with what your putting out into the world, it’s a vulnerable part of you, so when you connect creatively with someone, it’s serendipitous.

We recently had a conversation with Rob on his podcast “The Wavy Podcast” about creative culture during a time of global protest and pandemic, how Black Yoke came about, and our life interactions as Black, Brown or Melanin bodied people. It felt like your everyday “I’m catching up with the homie, about important shit” vibe haha. We easily talked for an hour, and could have kept the convo going. Keep a lookout for that episode and other interviews by following The Wavy Podcast.

With “The Wavy Podcast” (more of a homie check in/social and political vibe) and “The Basement” (a more detailed creative workmanship exchange) Rob facilitates the multilayered experience of not just creative culture, but how creative culture interacts with the social and political schisms of today; and he does so in such a way that doesn’t dumb down the quality. The dude is dope, a Black Milwaukee creative who is consistent when consistency is needed, especially today in America’s social and political sub cultures. There is a genuineness that has been consistently displayed, in not only his creative projects, but his day to day. Even Rob’s creative medium is unlimited, allowing one creative outlet to encourage another without putting himself in one particular style. It’s like he has no idea what he’s going to create, or what he’ll use until he does it, “my work is homegrown, and not for the faint of heart”.

After the completion of Rob’s first art show, But Venus Was In Retrograde, he started working on a new project, a virtual concept which would allow his art to be accessible, and still provide an experience with respect to the Global quarantined lifestyle. If you want to interact with something creative, and you’ve been itching to get out and hit them streets…DON’T. Check out Rob’s upcoming virtual art show: Welcome To The Reboot (December 2020), Info available on Instagram.

Also , if you have the opportunity to follow Rob on his creative platforms do it, He’s definitely putting in the work and contributing not only towards Milwaukee, but the creative culture as a whole, and he’s just a dope human.
