Home town: Brooklyn, NYC

Creative Mediums: Film X Digital Art

"I’ve  learned that this path is self-sustaining, shit is going to happen, and sometimes you're not going to like it, you’re going to be frustrated and at times break down, but the fuel that keeps you moving forward comes from knowing, and trusting that you got this. No one in the world can stop you from being you, except you."

Jahmel Reynolds first caught our eye with his creative influence in a 7 part cinematic LP, The Emcee Memoirs . This visual X hip hop memoir displays his overflowing artistry, unbeholded to main stream film, and digital rhetoric. His use of digital art within his films, almost resonates this 80’s/90’s NYC feel, with an Above The Rim, Spike Lee joint tone, embodied by his Sci-Fi, comic book geekdom. I know that’s a mouth full right?, but all that actually comes to mind. As a Black creative inspired by the other creatives around him, from Latasha Alcindor Aka L.A, to his partners and co creators of Ren Revolution, Jahmel's mission is to express his own untouched perspective, and that of the world around him. To share a collective conversation amongst creatives in a way not usually done today. Jahmel and his counterparts of Ren Revolution are breaking the voice of creative conformity, and the status quo riddled with frustration, fear, and expectation. By taking control of his blackness, his artistry, and creative reflection, he and Ren Revolution are doing it themselves, and changing what we perceive understanding and growth to look like in the creative world.
